SFS Standard Surnoch Creature 9

Surnochs inhabit lifeless asteroids and small moons throughout the cosmos. A surnoch's mouth is deep, funnel-like, and lined with numerous rows of sharp, pointed teeth, which allow it to grind matter down as it chews and melts its way through rock and stone. Surnochs have an innate sense of which minerals their bodies require most and can find these minerals even through miles of rocks. Surnochs excrete condensed forms of these minerals, leaving tunnels full of strange alloys and gem-quality materials in their wake.

When multiple surnochs gather together, their appetites synchronize, causing them to hunt for specific minerals en masse. The worms rain destruction on whole regions until their need is sated, then suddenly turn on each other in a show of dominance.

Space Worm

“Space worm” is a nonscientific term for a xenobiologically complex clade of invertebrate animals and beasts that make their home in the vastness of space. Some, like the diaspora and dust worms, show signs of intelligence and are directly related to each other. Others, like the surnoch, evolved separately, with their origins completely unknown to science.
