Expansion Bays
An expansion bay houses a facility designed for downtime activities, including healing, recreation, research, and socialization.
Data Center
A data center connects to a starship computer and hosts a comprehensive, speedy intranet capable of quickly connecting to any infosphere within star system range. A starship with a data center installed traveling through the Diaspora can connect to an infosphere on Verces because both locations are in the Pact System, for example.
Registered crew members can Access Infosphere and perform other downtime activities while using the data center, which can be done remotely from anywhere on the starship. If the starship's scanner is ever malfunctioning, the data center can't be accessed until the battle station is repaired.
Fabrication Lab
A fabrication lab is a high-tech workshop full of tools and materials calibrated for spacefaring crafters. A crew member using this expansion bay can Craft and Repair items on board their starship without having to spend time to set up. A fabrication lab includes commercial creator capsules and extra storage for UPBs, workshops for handcrafted and magic items, and a computer with formulas for all basic level 0 adventuring gear.
Holo Den
A holo den is an expansion bay designed to project holographic vidgames and other interactive programs. Most holo dens are blank, padded rooms with few distractions. Every holo den comes equipped with entertainment, educational, and vocational training programs.
A creature can use a holo den to retrain during downtime without needing a mentor. A holo den can also be used for viewing any type of visual data stored on a bot, computer, or construct, such as a vid taken by a camerabot or the crew's previous battle recorded from the perspective of a hidden media crew.
Medical Bay
A medical bay (or “medbay”) includes surgical beds, diagnostic equipment, sensors, and clinical tools necessary to perform medical procedures, ranging from first aid to implanting new augmentations.
Creatures can use equipment inside a medical bay as a tactical medkit, providing a +1 item bonus to any Medicine checks attempted by a crew member inside the expansion bay. When being treated with the diagnostic equipment in a medical bay, a creature using the long-term rest downtime activity recovers Hit Points equal to their Constitution modifier (minimum 1) multiplied by triple their level (instead of double).
Passenger Quarters
Many Small and larger starships add a separate expansion bay for housing passengers, prisoners, and visitors, depending on the needs of a crew. Passenger quarters always have enough room to accommodate all non-crew creatures traveling on board the starship. A starship can have only one type of passenger quarters installed at a time.
Basic: Cots sheltered by sturdy stalls surround a cluster of bucket seats. Basic passenger quarters don't take up an expansion bay slot.
Prison: Secure cells are sparsely furnished with a bench, bed, and lavatory behind a privacy screen. Each cell is protected by an elite lock biometrically keyed to the starship's registered crew members. A creature locked inside a cell in the prison quarters gains the observed and restrained conditions.
Luxury: Grand suites feature configurable yet fashionable antigrav furniture and private space observation decks, plus a plethora of in-suite amenities. These quarters are popular with adventurers who get hired to escort VIP clients. Creatures on board a starship with luxury passenger quarters reduce their Will DC against Diplomacy checks attempted by crew members to Gather Information, Make an Impression, or make a Request.
Science Lab
The science lab includes an array of scientific and technical equipment useful for a variety of purposes and studies. A science lab allows characters to spend downtime attempting Recall Knowledge checks with a +1 item bonus to identify both items and creatures, assuming they have the specimen or a sample. Crew members can attempt one such check for each day of downtime spent using the science lab. Crew members also gain a +1 item bonus when using the science lab for checks to Research topics related to any creature or item that was previously identified.
Universal Expansion Bays
Crew Quarters
This expansion bay provides a safe place for the crew to rest. Crew quarters don't take up an expansion bay slot and always have enough room to accommodate all crew members. A starship can have only one type of crew quarters installed at a time.
Bunks: Sturdy but utilitarian metal cots stack sleeping crew members on top of each other. Creatures gain a +1 item bonus to Perception checks to initiative rolls while resting in the bunks.
Budget: Cramped yet cozy rooms allow enough space for a bed, footlocker, and a few decorations. Each contains a secret panel in the ceiling, floor, or wall with a cache that grants a +1 item bonus to Conceal up to 10 Bulk of items stored there. Medium and smaller creatures gain a +1 item bonus to Hide in the cache.
Comfortable: These plush yet functional rooms arranged around a spacious common area create a hub for the whole crew to enjoy starship amenities together. Starships with comfortable crew quarters installed gain 1 extra slot for an expansion bay.
Extravagant: Luxurious suites adorned in opulent furnishings are biosynced and tailor-made for each member of the crew. Creatures resting in extravagant crew quarters need to spend only 4 hours there to gain the benefits of a full night's rest.
Lounge
A starship’s lounge can be as humble as a few crates crowded around a retro gaming console or as decadent as a capsule resort designed to suit the crew’s preferences. A lounge can be any size and doesn’t take up an expansion bay slot.
Mess Bay
Depending on the size and purpose of a starship, a mess bay might be a small room stocked with a basic food synthesizer and a table for four to a full-service cafeteria staffed by specialized minibots programmed to cook delicious meals for crew members of any culture, species, and taste preference. In addition to fresh provisions (or UPB-to-meal synthesizers), a mess hall stores 30 days of ready-to-eat travel rations, which are refilled automatically at port.
