Starship Equipment

Player starships grow in power along with their crew, and most spacefarers upgrade their starships and battle stations to synergize with their chosen class abilities, skills, and playstyle preferences. This is where starship equipment comes in.

Escape Pods

While most starships come with escape pods as a standard safety feature, the cramped and sparsely supplied default models are so uncomfortable that some crew members joke they’d rather go down with the ship. Starship escape pods don’t use additional upgrade slots on your starship and are automatically installed near each battle station and in each expansion bay. Escape pods are automatically restored when the starship is docked at a major port or settlement.

All escape pods come with medkits, comm units, and the tools necessary to make quick repairs and aid the passenger in docking with a rescue vessel. They have enough air to last an occupant 1 week and are usually stocked with enough water and food to last 1 week. The amount of supplies stowed in an escape pod depends on the distance the starship crew expects to travel. A shuttle hopping between a planet and its moon might only carry enough supplies for 24 hours, whereas a freighter designed to travel between star systems probably has extended survival pods.

Starship Weapons

The following starship weapons can be installed only into a starship’s gunnery but otherwise function as any other weapon would. They’re fired by a crew member helming a gunnery battle station, using that crew member’s modifiers and proficiencies to determine if the attack hits. If any trait or critical weapon specialization refers to distance in feet, treat each 10-foot increment as 1 zone, to a minimum of 1 zone. A starship weapon installed in a gunnery can’t be disarmed or dropped. Starship weapons don’t need to be reloaded.

Upgrading Starship Weapons

Starship weapons automatically upgrade when installed into a gunnery battle station above commercial grade, becoming the same item level and grade as the battle station. This improves the weapon’s damage die, gives it the tracking trait, and defines how many weapon upgrades can be installed in the weapon, as indicated on the Weapon Improvements table. Weapon upgrades are installed into individual starship weapons, whereas gunnery battle stations use their upgrade slots for battle station upgrades.

Starship Drones

These drones can be operated by a drone console battle station. When not Deployed, drones are stored in a special expansion bay that can be located anywhere on the starship, even directly beneath or behind the drone console.

Expansion Bays

An expansion bay houses a facility designed for downtime activities, including healing, recreation, research, and socialization. Player starships have a number of expansion bays determined by their frame. The exact location of an expansion bay on a player starship is determined by the players and GM when they create their starship map. Many expansion bays occupy their own room on a starship, while others might occupy the same room as a battle station or other expansion bay. All expansion bays come equipped with escape pods Some expansion bays grant new activities or special benefits to crew members. Using an expansion bay's activity and gaining its benefits typically require a creature to enter the expansion bay. Most expansion bay activities are resolved during downtime.
