While most types of fey come into being as the guardians of natural phenomena, some declare themselves the stewards of mortal creations, such as buildings or starships. Shiptreeks are a name given to the variety of small fey who bond to starships and task themselves with their chosen craft’s care and upkeep. They often live in family groups numbering between 10 and 20 members.
While shiptreeks are often mistaken for gremlins, these reclusive fey bear no ill will toward others. Problems most often arise because the shiptreeks’ sole loyalty is to their bonded ship, and they typically spare no thought for the actual crew of that ship. They don’t like to be observed, coming out of hiding when members of the crew are elsewhere to repair and maintain their bonded ship.
Though they can be helpful, shiptreeks often consider anything within their bonded starship to belong to them, and crews unaware of shiptreeks’ presence often end up at each other’s throats, slinging accusations of stealing belongings and pilfering rations. In addition, anyone who disrespects their bonded ship (which can take a variety of forms, depending on the shiptreeks in question) is inevitably harassed until they disembark or make amends.
However, a crew that can come to an agreement with a shiptreek crew, usually through regular offerings of food or trinkets, often has one of the best-running starships in the system.

Starship Bond
(explorationoccult)
A crew of shiptreeks can perform a 24-hour bonding ritual with a starship of their choice, after which that ship is considered their bonded starship and remains so until the shiptreeks’ death or the ship’s destruction. Shiptreeks only have access to their innate spellcasting while inside their bonded ship. For the purpose of casting
translocate, the shiptreek is considered to be able to see everywhere within its bonded ship.
