Barathu Heritages

Choose one of the following barathu heritages at 1st level.

SFS Standard Covert Observer Barathu

You wish to learn about others but are concerned that your mere presence might affect how they live and act. Rather than directly engaging with other cultures or wildlife, you prefer to unobtrusively observe them. You can modify the shape of your body as well as genetically modify its composition to blend in with the natural surroundings of those you seek to observer. You become trained in Stealth. If you would automatically become trained in Stealth (from your background or class, for example), you instead become trained in another skill of your choice. You gain the Quiet Allies skill feat (even if you don't meet the feat's prerequisites). You can spend 10 minutes modifying the shape and color of your body to gain a +2 circumstance bonus to Stealth while using the Avoid Notice exploration activity in that environment (this bonus applies to initiative rolls with Stealth if you're Avoiding Notice at the start of an encounter).

SFS Standard Dreamer Barathu

You've communed with the cosmic melody of Liavara and it changed you. You struggle to express the fragments of memory and sensation you recall from the experience, except through singing and similar psychic emanations. Choose one cantrip from the occult spell list. By weaving magic into your song, you can cast this spell as an occult innate spell at will. A cantrip is heightened to a spell rank equal to half your level rounded up.

Your magic is adaptable, and you can channel your music to enhance it. Once per day, you can meditate on your cosmic song to change the cantrip you've chosen to a different cantrip from the occult spell list. This is a 10-minute activity that has the concentrate trait.

SFS Standard Early Stage Barathu

You're young and inexperienced compared to other barathus, with an individualistic worldview likely shaped by your interactions with other cultures. You have yet to see the full breadth of the cosmos and haven't adapted yourself to overcome its many threats or understand its various life-forms. Your form is highly mutable, as you haven't yet chosen to specialize or merge with other barathus. You're Small instead of Medium. You gain Quick Squeeze as a bonus feat. Additionally, you gain resistance to precision damage equal to half your level (minimum 1).

SFS Standard Galactic Wanderer Barathu

The wonders of the universe called to you early in life, beckoning you to leave the confines of terrestrial spheres and travel the galaxy instead. As a young barathu, you spent much of your time exploring the vastness of space, seeking out celestial bodies and learning about the flora and fauna that had adapted to live within them. You gain the cosmic trait, and in areas of zero gravity, your fly Speed increases by 10. Additionally, you gain the Living Capsule action when in a zero-gravity environment.

SFS Standard Genetically Unstable Barathu

You've constantly adapted your form to learn more about the creatures and environment around you. While you've gained plenty of knowledge, it came with a price. Through decades of modification, the sequencing of your genetic code has broken down and become unstable. You're more transparent than most barathus, resembling an ooze-like creature. You gain the Become Ooze action.

SFS Standard Living Codex Barathu

You love learning and have cataloged all your experiences with other creatures and environments. After a lifetime of exploration, you've learned how to codify all your findings into your own genetic material. This dynamic algorithm enables you to share your knowledge and experience with others of your kind in vast collectives. To share with other ancestries, you've also learned how to interface your genetic code with computers and program them to create a vast database for others to access. While your experiences are extensive and varied, you've also gained a unique perspective on everything you've learned, allowing certain benefits to those who glean information from you specifically. You're trained in Society (or another skill of your choice if you're already trained in Society). You gain a +4 circumstance bonus to checks to Aid on Recall Knowledge.

SFS Standard Manufacturer Barathu

Your body is a living laboratory, allowing you to ingest raw materials and refine them into useful medicines and other products. You become trained in Crafting (or another skill of your choice if you're already trained in Crafting) and gain the Serum Crafting feat.

SFS Standard Merged Barathu

You're a unique entity formed from the constant union of two or more barathus who enjoy the act of combination so much that they chose not to return to isolation as their former selves. You're Large instead of Medium. You gain 10 Hit Points from your ancestry instead of 8, and you gain a +1 circumstance bonus to saving throws against emotion effects.

SFS Standard Ocean Diver Barathu

SFS Note Change the second sentence to read “When you do this, your body increases its size to Huge, and you can only use your swim Speed to move.”
Your thirst for knowledge saw your gaze turn toward terrestrial exploration. Rather than the vastness of space or the surfaces of other planets, you've chosen instead to explore oceanic depths. Here you've found creatures and biomes as wondrous as those found in the far reaches of the galaxy. Such incredible findings must be shared, and you've adapted yourself to that task. You gain the ability to breathe underwater, and you gain a swim Speed equal to your fly Speed. Additionally, you gain the Living Submersible action.

SFS Standard Rugged Explorer Barathu

You yearn to explore beyond Bretheda and Liavara and seek out challenging and physically demanding environments. Such places often contain dangerous flora and fauna, or perhaps very inhospitable native humanoids. To deal with such threats, you've genetically modified your body to make it hardy and resilient, creating your own protective shell of mineral deposits. This shell counts as medium armor in the composite armor group. It grants a +2 item bonus to AC, has a Dex cap of +2, a check penalty of –2, a Strength threshold of +2, and has the comfort and exposed traits. This item bonus increases to +3 at 5th level. You're trained in your shell. You can wear a flight suit, but you can't wear other armor. You can etch armor runes onto your shell, but you can't install armor upgrades.

Versatile Heritages

The peoples of the Pact Worlds (and other worlds in the galaxy) are many, and they have a long history of intermingling or dabbling with forces capable of altering the very fabric of a mortal body or soul. The children born to such parents might have traits from each of their parents or physiological manifestations of the forces their ancestors were influenced by, manifesting as a specific heritage.

SFS Standard Borai

You've returned from the brink of death as a borai— at once both living and undead. You gain the borai and undead trait, in addition to the traits from your ancestry. Unlike other undead, you don't gain void healing. You're healed by vitality effects and damaged by void damage, as if you were a living creature. Likewise, you can be stabilized, healed, and brought back to life as if you were a living creature, save that you always return to life in your normal undead state (as a borai). You gain low-light vision, or you gain darkvision if your ancestry already has low-light vision. You can choose from borai feats and feats from your ancestry whenever you gain an ancestry feat.

You gain the corpsefolk and undead traits, in addition to the traits from your ancestry. You gain low-light vision, or you gain darkvision if your ancestry already has low-light vision. You can choose from corpsefolk feats and feats from your ancestry whenever you gain an ancestry feat.

SFS Standard Gap-Touched

The Gap has subsumed some part of you and left you with weird powers and jarring existential issues, while giving you a unique ability to perceive the history obscured by the Gap. You gain the Gap-touched trait, in addition to the traits from your ancestry. You can choose from Gap-touched feats and feats from your ancestry whenever you gain an ancestry feat. You gain the Additional Lore general feat for Gap Lore. You gain a +1 circumstance bonus to saving throws against mental effects.

SFS Standard Prismeni

You have an innate connection to the Drift. You gain the prismeni trait, in addition to the traits from your ancestry. While you're in the Drift, you can automatically pinpoint the location of Drift beacons, Drift lanes, Drift engines, and other Drift-related technology within a 100-mile radius. If you're Piloting a starship that doesn't have a Drift engine, you can serve as a connection between the Drift and that starship. This is a 1-minute activity that has the concentrate trait, and it allows the starship you're Piloting to enter or exit the Drift. Once within the Drift, the starship travels via conventional thrusters, as normal. When you get a critical failure on a Piloting check to Navigate or Plot Course through the Drift, you get a failure instead. You gain low-light vision, or you gain darkvision if your ancestry already has low-light vision. You can choose from prismeni feats and feats from your ancestry whenever you gain an ancestry feat.

SFS Standard Xenometric Android

You're a constructed version of a non-human ancestry. You gain the android trait, in addition to the trait associated with the ancestry you resemble. You gain the constructed ability but not the low-light vision ability of androids. In addition, your size category and reach changes to match the chosen ancestry. You can select from android feats up to 13th level, any of the feats of the ancestry you resemble, or xenometric android feats whenever you gain an ancestry feat. Choose a heritage from your ancestry, but you don't gain its mechanical benefits. The xenometric android heritage shouldn't be taken by a member of a constructed ancestry, such as android, or a human.
