Izalguuns, a secretive species originally from the Scoured Stars System, have had a troubled past. A long time ago, most izalguuns left their trinary solar system to escape the influence of their god Kadrical. These large, six-limbed people focus on community and survival, and they don't like to talk about their history.

Physical Description

Izalguuns are physically imposing, standing at around 7 feet tall and weighing 900 pounds, give or take. They have four arms and two legs, with the lower set of arms being bulkier and elongated. Izalguuns' unique physiology allows them to stand bipedal and benefit from having four arms, and to drop on all fours in a quadrupedal posture if the moment calls for speed. White mottling on their joints contrasts with their gray-green skin. Their vertically oriented mouths are lined with sharp teeth on each side. Izalguuns' two eyes rest on bony protrusions that extend horizontally from their skulls, giving them a very wide field of view.

Society

Izalguun societies vary substantially between those on the adopted planet of Izalraan and those on their original planet of Agillae-4. While the diaspora groups on Izalraan brought some traditions with them, they valued the opportunity to create a new societal structure. They fled the Scoured Stars to get away from the deity Kadrical and so wanted to remove his influence from their lives entirely.

Upon arriving on Izalraan, izalguuns secreted away the starships that brought them out of the Scoured Stars deep within subterranean complexes, eschewing technology to reconnect with nature. Their society is very structured, with each of its members taking a role as either a hunter, a gatherer, a farmer, or a leader. Having hidden away the industrial technology that carried them between stars, these izalguuns endure an immense amount of manual labor to keep their communities fed, clothed, and housed. Along with the elders who lead their communities and provide wisdom, healers and scientists are also venerated as leaders, making use of the secret technology of their buried starships to do their jobs. Izalraan izalguuns aren't bound to remain in one role for their whole lives. Many an izalguun alternates between the hunting grounds and the fields, spending years mastering a craft before pursuing a new endeavor to contribute to their society. No matter what an individual's role is, the izalguun societies on Izalraan take a community-based approach to caring for children and the elderly, with everyone who's able to pitch in doing so to make sure that no one lacks the basic necessities of life. Leaders choose their successors and apprentices depending on their areas of expertise and the leader-to-be's temperament, reputation within the society, and skills. Once someone has become a leader and is charged with keeping the society's technology a secret, they're bound to that role from then on, at least for so long as they stay on Izalraan.

The societal structures of the izalguuns who remained on Agillae-4 differ greatly from both those of the izalguuns on Izalraan and those of the ancient izalguuns who built their cities. While they embrace technology, Agillaean izalguuns had to leave their cities while seeking safety and became largely nomadic. They scavenged technology from the ruins of their own civilization. These izalguuns don't have defined roles as those on Izalraan do, but they've inherited the same sense of community. They tend to form small groups that travel together but might not all be related. They forage for food and set traps to catch small wildlife to eat.

The izalguuns of Agillae-4 are slowly moving back into their ancestral cities, such as Izadamar. This city is largely in ruins, but with immigration and involvement from external groups, a large push is underway to rebuild and repopulate Izadamar due to its importance as a port of call on a Drift Lane. Izalguuns now share their world with many other species, inviting newcomers to participate in economic and political matters as equals to native residents. However, izalguuns certainly benefit from the city being originally designed with their physiology in mind, as everything is already at scale for such large beings. A substantial contingent of izalguuns from Izalraan have even returned to their ancestral home of Agillae-4, and they're learning to cultivate the native vegetation and generate crops to feed the booming city.

Izalguuns are omnivores to the extreme with the ability to digest a wide variety of food sources, which helps in both their settled and nomadic societies. Traditional izalguun dishes tend to be flexible with their ingredients, such as thick stews and warm salads, and are often served in a wide, shallow bowl made of bread to reduce mess, given the vertical orientation of their mouths. They use plentiful herbs as substitutions for ingredients that have gone stale.

Izalguun names are typically two syllables and often use repeated vowels. They don't have a family name, though parents will often implement letters or syllables from their own names into their child's name.

Beliefs

While various izalguun societies have developed in different ways, certain through lines appear common to all izalguun cultures. A strong sense of community is one such commonality, with a focus on putting the group's needs ahead of one's own. Acts like abandoning your people to danger are major taboos. Izalguuns have a reputation for being incredibly trustworthy and honorable, being willing to give up even their lives instead of revealing a secret entrusted to them. They are often secretive even when it isn't truly necessary and don't like to reveal personal information about themselves.

Izalguuns haven't been religious ever since their trouble with the deity Kadrical, and they prefer to put their faith in each other rather than a divine being. Worship of Kadrical is horrifying to most izalguuns, though sects that engage in such worship do exist. Resettled izalguuns are much more likely to serve a god than their kin and commonly worship gods like Talavet, Yaraesa, and Zon-Shelyn. Talavet and Yaraesa have values similar to most izalguuns, while Zon-Shelyn's story resonates for many.

Izalguuns on Izalraan specifically opted to eschew technology to form an agrarian society in harmony with nature, though their leaders continue to retain access to that technology in case it's needed once more. They value hard work and providing for the community.
