Starships In A Campaign

Part of the Team
Think of a player starship as its own character. The GM introduces it narratively or invites players to help build it, and the starship advances automatically whenever crew members level up. There's no need to track the starship's earned XP since it should always be the same level as the players.

There are plenty of other ways a crew can upgrade a starship, including salvaging wrecked starships, receiving a starship and upgrades from a faction or sponsor, or even stealing a fancy new starship kitted out with their favorite upgrades.
Crew Cohesion
Your starship's crew is a team. Crew comms and cohesion are key for a smooth victory in tactical starship combat, so every member of the team should know why they're here and have a reason to keep working together no matter what happens. The whole group should work together out of character to determine a common purpose for the crew. Make sure to decide how to handle table disagreements beforehand. Remember that conflict can happen in or out of character even if players are friends. If your group wants to roleplay intra-party conflict, everyone should discuss and set boundaries as part of your pregame preparations.
