Sinking Starship Hazard 7

Complexity Complex
Stealth +17 (expert)
Description The sheet of ice covering the lake forms a hard crust over 50-foot-deep water. The water is icy cold, though the heat of the crashing ship momentarily heats the local area as it collides with and breaks through the frozen surface.

Disable DC 30 Arcana (expert) to improvise a magical solution, DC 30 Crafting (expert) to improvise a mechanical solution, DC 18 Piloting (trained) to attempt an emergency water landing into the frozen lake
Reaction [reaction] Trigger The starship hits the ice; Effect Creatures inside the starship take 2d10+9 bludgeoning damage (DC 24 basic Reflex save). The hazard then rolls initiative.

Routine (1 action) On the hazard's initiative, lake currents pull down the ship and any creature within it. A creature that was on the surface becomes submerged, and a creature that was already submerged is pulled 10 feet down by the wake of the sinking ship. Submerged creatures must hold their breath or engage environmental protections to avoid suffocation.
A creature in the lake can attempt a DC 25 Athletics check to Swim 10 feet toward the surface. On a critical failure, the creature is tangled in debris and must spend an Interact action to free itself before attempting another check. A creature that Swims to the surface can spend an Interact action to drag themselves onto the ice and out of the lake. Other creatures can Aid a creature on the surface with appropriate tools or with a DC 25 Athletics check, with the same results as if the creature attempted the check. Any creature that ends their turn in the water takes 2d10+9 cold damage (DC 25 basic Fortitude save; fatigued on a failure).

Reset The ship quickly fills with water and sinks to the bottom of the lake in 6 rounds. The hole in the ice opened by the crash doesn't freeze over for 2 hours.
