The famously inhospitable swamps of the planet Rodnarth are subject to a variety of extreme weather events, from the sulfur-filled waterways igniting in flash firestorms to invisible deposits of lethal gases.
The flora and fauna of Rodnarth have adapted to be similarly extreme. The mannoq beast (Rodnarthian for “fire eater”) is one such example. Mannoq beasts are plantlike creatures that have evolved to feed on the swamps’ frequent firestorms and repurpose the resulting chemicals into their sap and fruits. Their violent method of reproduction is often misconstrued as aggression: instead of encouraging animals to eat their fruit to spread seeds, mannoq beasts launch explosive fruit whenever they detect motion. Upon striking a target, the plum-like fruit bursts into caustic, sticky sap. As the victim attempts to flee, the seeds held within the sap gradually fall off and germinate.
Though they’ve shown some rudimentary capacity for understanding language, only the bravest (or luckiest) naturalists have made any progress forming an accord with these creatures, most often in the form of trading chemical nutrients for the chance to pick their fruit in peace.

Motion Sense A mannoq beast can sense nearby creatures through vibrations in air or water caused by movement as an
imprecise sense at the listed range.
Shrub Mimicry When a mannoq beast is stationary, it’s indistinguishable from a mundane swamp shrub unless an observer succeeds at a DC
34 Perception check.
HP 245
Resistances bludgeoning 10, piercing 10
Weaknesses cold 10, slashing 10
Heat Dependence When a mannoq beast would be dealt fire damage, it instead heals an amount of Hit Points equal to half the damage it would have taken and becomes
quickened until the end of its next turn. It can use its extra action to Stride or Strike. Conversely, when a mannoq beast takes cold damage, it becomes
slowed 1 for 1 round.
Volatile Sap When a mannoq beast is dealt damage by a melee weapon that lacks the reach property, that weapon’s wielder takes 1d8+5 fire damage from the mannoq beast’s explosive sap. When a mannoq beast rolls a critical hit on a branch Strike or a creature critically fails its Reflex save against the mannoq beast’s explosive fruit, the target takes 1d8
persistent fire damage as caustic sap sticks to its body.

The mannoq beast violently shakes its body, sending blazing sap flying in all directions. Creatures within 30 feet of the mannoq beast take 12d6
fire damage with a DC
