Explorers who encounter khefaks for the first time find themselves surprised not only with its aggression, but the target of that aggression: armor and other gear. It isn't uncommon for inexperienced explorers in khefak territory to return from expeditions literally empty-handed, much to the amusement of locals.

Gnaw Scrap
(exploration)
A khefak chews on an unattended object to feed, dealing 4 piercing damage every 10 minutes to the object. This damage ignores 10 points of Hardness. If a khefak doesn't spend at least 1 hour Gnawing Scrap per day, it begins to
starve until it spends 10 minutes Gnawing Scrap.
All Creatures in "Khefak"
Khefak Biogenetics bioengineered khefaks to consume scrap thasteron so the waste could be refined into starship fuel. These creatures eventually became a prime example of a solution becoming a problem of its own. After the discovery of Drift travel, Akiton's thasteron market plummeted, removing the need for mining infrastructure, including khefaks. Khefak Biogenetics destroyed the production facilities, thinking they'd completely eradicated their creations. Khefaks are hardy, however, and the few survivors left the facilities. Beyond thasteron, they subsisted on inorganic materials, and their rapid reproduction rate allowed them to quickly spread all over Akiton. Some stowed away on starships, allowing them to spread throughout the Pact Worlds.
