Bristle Flash[one-action](lightvisual)
The tashtari causes their filaments to glow with intense light. Non-tashtari creatures within a 40-foot emanation must attempt a DC 19 Fortitude save. A creature that attempts this save is immune to all Bristle Flashes for 1 minute. The tashtari's fur then dims, and they can't use this ability until they bask in sunlight for at least 10 minutes.
Native to the green world of Castrovel, the tashtari has become known throughout the wider galaxy as the laser wolf. Wolflike pack hunters, tashtaris have a layer of flexible filaments that emit phosphorescent lights and allow them to silently communicate through a bespoke visual language. Each tashtari possesses a node within their throat that allows them to channel their stored solar energy and unleash a beam of focused light, giving them their moniker of laser wolves. A mating pair, consisting of one or two alphas, leads packs of tashtaris, who generally become the apex predators of large areas with one or more forested regions. The presence of trees is important for the nocturnal tashtaris, who sleep on the treetops during the day to bask in sunlight and recharge their solar energies.
Nocturnal Predators
Despite their reputation as dangerous predators, some pre-Gap folklore depicts tashtaris as calm and peaceful beasts who coexisted with communities that offered them food while they basked in the sun. Some scholars suggest these tales might coincide with a period of diminished solar activity on the planet's surface. Contrarily, tashtaris brought to systems with stronger solar output tend to grow more aggressive and bestial, capable of wiping out entire settlements in a single night.
