Binnaquid
Binnaquids are quiet swamp-dwellers from the planet Czelle, known for patience, stealth, and family loyalty.
Ancient binnaquids were ambush hunters who would lie in wait for their prey to get near, then attack. To this day, they are known for the strong bonds of kinship they form with their families and friends across the Szandite Collective.

Binnaquids are well adapted for their swampy homelands. Their mottled blue green coloration blends in beautifully with the water, and a small protrusion atop their heads allows them to breathe while the rest of their body is submerged underwater. Their wide mouths are filled with sharp, spiny teeth. They don't have a protruding nose, just two small slits. They have two arms and two legs, and their hands and feet are both slightly webbed. Binnaquids on Czelle tend to dress in clothing that matches their skin tone, allowing them to easily hide in the murky water, though those who live off-planet often experiment with other colors.
Binnaquids still build their homes in the swamp, and generally have at least part of their houses flooded. This is harsh on building materials, and binnaquid cities are noted for frequent construction as old buildings come down and new ones go up. Binnaquids generally expect visitors to adapt to the dampness rather than building on dry land for them. Spacefaring binnaquids tend to take frequent baths to avoid having their moist skin dry out.
Binnaquids have tight-knit family groups and usually live in multigenerational households, typically in multi-building compounds. They frequently have pets, both aquatic and terrestrial.
Binnaquids have a vibrant musical culture, with some instruments that can only be played aboveground and some that can only be played underwater. They additionally enjoy underwater sports, and many aquatic species have taken up traditional binnaquid sports. These include dakeshar, a game that involves two teams swimming in laps, trying to get a special baton around the loop the most times while the other team blocks, and sagrint, a sport that involves throwing javelins the furthest distance underwater.
Patience is one of the biggest virtues in binnaquid society, along with loyalty to one's family. They traditionally worshipped the great ocean spirit Aspalasch, but this spirit hasn't been seen in centuries, and younger binnaquids often worship other deities, including Hylax, Yaresa, and Zon Shelyn. Elder binnaquids generally hold true to their faith in Aspalasch and assume that their patience will be rewarded. They generally consider szandite crystals to be holy, a gift from Aspalasch or another deity. They revere the ability of the crystals to create community over long distances.
