Passionate interstellar travelers with origins in the First World, the fey known as moyishuus are renowned across the galaxy as funloving explorers and adventurers.

Originally native to the First World, moyishuus emerged into the Vast on the sensestone-rich planet Veyvilla-6. Many moyishuus have an insatiable hunger for adventure and meeting new faces. Those among them who struck out into the galaxy at large to experience the lives and emotions of its inhabitants earned their people a reputation for being an affable, charismatic, and adventurous bunch. Many moyishuus embark on such journeys as soon as they reach maturity, returning to Veyvilla-6 only when they've satiated their appetites for observing the emotions of other species.

If you want to play a character who's supernaturally in tune with their own emotions, and even with those of others, you should play a moyishuu.

You Might…

  • Invoke your passion at any time, even when it's inappropriate.
  • Evoke emotions from those around you, lifting or dampening their spirits.
  • Live your life as if each moment was your last.

Others Probably…

  • Distrust you, thinking that you have the ability to manipulate their emotions.
  • See you as less capable because your emotions direct you.
  • Question your ability to plan ahead.

Physical Description

Moyishuus are humanoid fey with brightly colored skin and crystalline hair in any shade of the spectrum. Most have natural darker markings across their limbs that often resemble vines, and they have long, pointed ears. They average between 4 to 6 feet in height and live up to 200 years of age.

Moyishuus often express their passions through their physical appearance, sporting piercings, tattoos, and permanent aesthetic implants that run the gamut of expressions. Even their “hair,” actually an ancient symbiotic fungus that creates crystalline protrusions, is expressive and can be changed at will by a moyishuu to suit their current desires.

Nearly all moyishuus have some form of expressive nature, even though not every moyishuu lives their entire life in a chaotic artist's adventure. Many settle into a routine and find their deepest and most profound expressions in one place, whether it be some complex and novel form of painting or the most mundane task one can think of. The moyishuu mechanic who can somehow make an engine purr is no less an artist than the banjo-forward hopepunk band playing at the local bar.

Moyishuu gender expression is a highly individual choice that they modify not just by their clothing style, but wholly change at their whim. While many settle into a favorite gender expression, some change daily. Some go so far as to actively modify the fungus that creates their hair, using it to create novel expressions.

Moyishuus know emotion as a sense that pervades their every experience, and they can emulate and harness these feelings both overtly and subtly. Every moyishuu, regardless of station, begins their day by developing a dominant emotion, known as their “soulfeel.” This soulfeel shapes much of their interactions for the rest of the day, buoying or even dragging out the feelings of those around them.

Society

Moyishuus are a people of infinite passion, ready to express their feelings at the drop of a hat. Spontaneous singing and even musical bands that dissolve in a few days are commonplace in the cities of Veyvilla-6, and many find long and satisfying careers in entertainment throughout the planet. Originally natives of the First World and found there in vastly larger numbers, moyishuus build their communities to often echo the chaotic appearances of fey cities.

Most of moyishuu society in the Vast revolves around Veyvilla-6, but in a society of self-expressive, near-anarchical fey, organization in any facet of life is a rarity. Ballyhome, the largest city on Veyvilla-6, expresses this spirit in its chaotic street layout, winding natural paths along the topography where buildings of different architectural styles stand next to each other. In more than one instance, two buildings have been known to rise in an intricate dance around each other with starkly contrasting architectural styles inspired by opposite ends of the galaxy.

Moyishuu society isn't entirely chaotic in practice. Every moyishuu chooses their emotive nature for the day, every day, upon their waking, wherever they are. From this emotive choice has a system of clans developed based upon the method in which this choice is made. Though their names are esoteric in nature, the reality is simply that Those Who Dance choose their emotive path for the day by expressing themselves physically, while Those Who Sing tend to rise and vocalize almost immediately. The less literal Those Who Burn tend to instead choose an objective for the day and unleash immediate effort to accomplish a task, while Those Who Sow meditate for periods to begin their day.

This societal separation has, in the modern era, caused the aforementioned architectural interplay, as moyishuus sometimes see their homes as one of the most important places to express their long-term goals.

Moyishuu musical and entertainment culture have also caused a massive exodus of young moyishuus who seek attention from Pact Worlds audiences, and the concert halls and bars of Veyvilla-6 feature some of the most passionate and entertaining acts in the Vast. It's often said in the entertainment business that “nary a star can outshine the brilliance of a Veyvillian stage.”

Being experimental and mutable by nature, moyishuus often consider their gender as a fluid spectrum, sometimes rejecting the concept entirely and referring to their desires in terms of time. A common moyishuu term for a partner is “the moment,” regardless of how long their relationship has lasted or, in many cases, is planned to last. Thus, moyishuu partnerships can be short-lived but are just as often lifelong affairs between multiple individuals.

Many moyishuus enter into civil bonds, but due to their sometimes-chaotic tendencies, these relationships are legally binding for a set amount of time and must be argued before a court. While this court is largely a formality akin to a marriage ceremony, occasionally some moyishuus have been known to make a show of it, leading to an entire distinct subgenre of live-action court love drama emerging on Veyvilla-6. Featuring rock-ballad duels between three lovers who can't agree to a marriage contract, a lengthy cross-promotional series with The Applecake Adventures of Space Fortress Z is one of the most widely known examples.

The government on Veyvilla-6 still maintains a relationship with the First World in the form of trade missions and diplomatic overtures, as both sides bristle at the other's involvement in their affairs. Most politically active moyishuus involved in their communities see themselves as a neutral party between the First World and the Vast and refuse to bow to either's powers. As such, a magical barrier has been erected around Veyvilla-6 that prevents most, but not all, travel between planes. Similar to the blooms of Kalo-Mahoi, there are ritual paths that open portals between the powers. These blooms are, however, closely monitored through a magical sensor network on Veyvilla-6 by using its density of sensestone to tap actively into the Drift.

This magical sensor network bears the reality of Veyvilla- 6's capabilities should it ever need to defend itself. That there aren't constant incursions of First World fey into the Veyvilla System speaks volumes to the efficiency of the monitoring system and the deadly nature of whatever response teams the fey of Veyvilla-6 field. No records of whatever conflict first severed moyishuus from the First World remain, but it's known to have been a pre-Gap situation, speaking to the depth of the rift. A common phrase states that “Veyvilla will have its independence, and the First World will have only itself to blame.”

The Veyvilla-6 government is largely an expanded union formed into an ad-hoc parliament through which direct voting is offered should any individual moyishuu show a desire to interact with the political landscape. For many, statecraft is an expression just as passionate as any song, and many laws have been written in rhyming scheme. Ballyhome is both the largest settlement on Veyvilla-6 and its de facto capital, with all other settlements on the planet's three continents put together making up roughly two thirds of the population. Perhaps the most important department of the government, the Department of Stone Sense and Sensestone—a watchdog organization that both surveys and protects the rights of any sensestone deposits—employs a full quarter of governmental personnel on Veyvilla-6.

Sensestone has been a boon to Veyvilla-6, and to moyishuus in general. Magical, technological, and biotech modifications with sensestone allow for unique ways to restore and augment sensations, and many who are magically inclined prefer the feel and feedback of sensestone when interacting with rituals, even if it's exorbitantly priced.

Just as most moyishuus have a fluid relationship with the concept of gender, they each have unique methods for how they interact with their emotive senses. At a young age, each moyishuu finds their connective action to their ability. These connective actions fall into four primary categories, known as Those who Burn, Dance, Sing, and Sow.
  • Those Who Burn: The closest thing that could be called warlike among their society, these moyishuus often express their passions as physical expressions. Sport-fighting, vidgaming, and even weapon engineering are common pastimes and occupations for Those Who Burn, and they're often the most common among those who leave Veyvilla-6.
  • Those Who Dance: Many mistake Those Who Dance for elves upon first encountering them. These moyishuus usually stand slightly taller than most and are often known as the “party animals” of Veyvilla-6 and beyond. That they're often associated most closely with ambivalence can confuse some, but their expression of passion mostly pertains only to their own actions.
  • Those Who Sing: The most common on Veyvilla-6, these moyishuus are consequently the most often encountered. Colorful with vibrant personalities to match, Those Who Sing are passionately artistic, though their “art” might be a love of mathematical equations as easily as musical expression.
  • Those Who Sow: An enigmatic group with no overt connection with Veyvilla-6, Those Who Sow are moyishuus who seem to spontaneously appear during moments of widespread extreme emotion. Many of Those Who Sow become local heroes, throwing themselves into whatever situation has caused such an emotional response.
Moyishuus are known for their often uncommon and even outlandish names, with trends oscillating between the avant-garde and whatever curious vocalizations the parents envision. Thus, it's incredibly rare for any two moyishuus to have the same name.

Beliefs

Moyishuu belief systems run the gamut of pantheons, from the First World to the Pact Worlds, and more than a few profess to be active members in the so-called church of Zo!. (Zo! officially denies all connection to these cults.) There are very few organized religious buildings on Veyvilla-6, with the remaining fey Eldest worship occurring in groves or in random outdoor spaces. Even the church of Triune maintains only a tiny chapel devoted to the care of local Drift beacons, while the church of Ibra is housed in a small bar southwest of Ballyhome, run by a bartending priest who wears an oversized cowboy hat and worships the universe by telling inscrutable tales of supposed frontier wisdom.

Emotionsense

You gain emotionsense as an imprecise sense with a range of 20 feet. You can sense the emotions of creatures that don't have the mindless trait.

Soulfeel

Moyishuus are connected to their dominant emotion so deeply that it grants them the ability to project the raw feelings of that emotion. During your daily preparations, choose one of fury, joy, sorrow, and wonder. You become more acutely tuned to that emotion, allowing you to detect creatures feeling that emotion with emotionsense up to 60 feet away. You can distinguish when creatures you detect with emotionsense are experiencing that emotion, giving you a +2 circumstance bonus to Perception checks to Sense Motive against creatures experiencing that emotion.
