How goblins have managed to prosper long enough to spread across the galaxy is a testament to their ability to survive despite themselves. These eccentric and voracious tricksters are both drawn to and fascinated by dangerous machines, roaring fire, and unstable mayhem. They can live anywhere, eat anything, and thrive despite whatever obstacles get in their way.

A long time ago, on lost Golarion, a particularly plucky group of goblin heroes went on some legendary adventures. Though the plot of this classic goblin yarn varies dramatically in each telling (such details are irrelevant, you see), the ending is always the same. To escape a mighty foe, the goblins snuck onto a strange boat made of metal. That boat was a starship, bringing important longshanks to the newly constructed Absalom Station.

The descendants of the goblin stowaways, who insist on the moniker of space goblins, are famous for both their ingenuity and ability to cause a ruckus. If you want to play a scrappy and excitable character with a penchant for trouble, you should play a goblin.

You Might…

  • Tinker with your gear to personalize and upgrade it.
  • Eat strange meals not generally considered fit for consumption.
  • Tell exaggerated versions of events you witnessed or heard about from others.

Others Probably…

  • Refuse to use your dangerous technological handiwork.
  • Gossip about your odd behavior.
  • Envy the wonder with which you see the universe.

Physical Description

Goblins have scrawny bodies and oversized heads, pointy ears, bulging red eyes, and sharp fangs. Standing 3 feet tall, their skin is usually a froggy green or moldy blue, but dusty red or pale lavender goblins exist. Their hides grow warts or boils with little to no hair, and they can regrow teeth shockingly fast. Additionally, goblin digestive systems are like vats of boiling acid, able to break down practically anything with ease. To be a mutant is considered a huge social boon among goblins, and these special people are often conferred a heroic status by their peers.

Goblins reach adolescence at 3 years of age and are fully mature by 7. They can reach 50 years of age naturally, but the general life expectancy of a species known for such reckless behavior is unfortunately closer to 20.

Society

Goblins live practically anywhere, but many find comfort in dark, wet, and dirty places like the lower decks of ships and stations, abandoned factories, sewer systems, or junkyards. Goblins have no attachment to any home world. With short lifespans and quick gestation periods, a new generation of goblins can form in less than a decade. The past is easy to forget. Goblin tribes (which usually contain a "big boss" who acts as a leader and multiple families who communally raise whelps) prioritize exciting lives over setting down roots. It's common for space goblins to migrate planets when life becomes boring, whether by stowing away or by building their own starships.

The cultural touchstones of goblins from the Pre-Gap era still exist, though there have been noticeable evolutions. While goblins hate dogs and horses, the definition of both has expanded to any alien animal that frightens them. In goblin speak, big alien animals are horses, and small ones are dogs. Goblins' love of fire and music remains a core part of their cultural identity, especially the cacophonic (and iconic) picklecore genre. Longshanks became the name for any alien taller than them, and pickles are a goblinfs favorite meal, though what constitutes a pickle is now anything green and lumpy, be it an alien toad or a sample of high-grade uranium ore. Uneasy superstitions about writing exist among goblin communities, but gobo-comix have exploded in popularity, famous for their crude and uncensored art styles and their anarchic subject matters.

Beliefs

Goblins generally operate on a take-as-needed philosophy. If they desperately need something, and someone else isn't using it, it's fine to take it. Moreover, don't really care about traditional religion. At most, they'll follow the coolest deity they've heard of most recently. Despite this, many goblins across the stars enthusiastically worship Lambatuin. The god with the biggest goblin clergy, however, is Weydan. Goblin priests assert that he is a goblin hero-god, one of the heroes who stowed away on the strange metal boat to Absalom Station in the first place.

Popular Edicts build your own equipment, relish big fires and tasty meals, create extraordinary art of any kind
Popular Anathema trust a “dog” or a “horse,” read anything that isn't a comic, stay somewhere boring for too long
