The Ethereal Plane, or Space Between Spaces, is a vast, misty realm overlapping each of the Inner Planes. Formed by the interacting tidal forces of creation and destruction from Creation's Forge and the Void, this plane swirls with currents and eddies of fog, lit only by erratic pulses of soft green luminescence and dim light from the planes it overlays, visible but ever intangible. Mortals once primarily used this plane as a means of short-distance transit, whether it be bypassing barriers or escaping through an unseen realm. Thought to be a realm of ghosts and spirits, the Ethereal Plane is also home to unknowable dangers that dwell within the realm's protomatter mists.

More technologically advanced inhabitants of the Universe use the Space Between Spaces as a site for esoteric media creation. So-called “ghost hunters” use magical spells or equipment to traverse the border between the Universe and Astral Plane to confront spirits or haunting forces tied to this realm, often recording their endeavors for use as media upon their return. The predators of the Ethereal Plane haven't taken kindly to the monetization of their space, and many have begun following intruders back to their realms of origin by developing plane-splitting abilities.

A portion of the galaxy of Desna's Spiral is home to a planar convergence with the Ethereal Plane known as Pharasma's Coil. The phenomenon appears like a second spiral expanding within the galaxy, but visible only to those looking for the metaphysical signs of the Space Between Spaces. Worlds within this section have thin barriers with the Ethereal Plane, allowing ease of entry between the planes through specialized magitech devices closely guarded by the Church of Pharasma.
