Known as the Silver Sea, the Astral Plane surrounds the other planes of the Inner Sphere, separating them from the Outer Sphere. The River of Souls flows into this realm from the Universe, and souls move on from here toward the Boneyard for their final judgment.

As magic and technology fuse, more expeditions and probes into the Astral Plane have led to theologians and metaphysicists in the Universe observing the plane and its properties directly. Such explorers and scientists often find themselves threatened by soul-hunting daemons and other predators seeking their preferred food source—souls. The beings known as psychopomps lead a cross-section of nearly every type of celestial and monitor in existence, along with some fiends, to defend the flow of souls from predators and scavengers. Increasingly, this coalition of defenders also operates to keep the ever-increasing flow of “nosy mortals” out of their affairs and prevent them from affecting the ordained flow of the Universe's cosmology.

Travelers within the Astral sea find the plane untouched by the passage of time, a property exploited by many mortals fearing old age. Time, however, isn't easily escaped, and upon exiting the Astral Plane, a creature finds this debt catching up to them, potentially aging to dust in moments.
